An “Enable WebGL” option in a screenshot of the “Debug” menu of an alleged unreleased build of Safari is visible in a tweet by Badass JavaScript (@badass_js).

The tweet said, “Safari 5.1 also has some new things in the Develop menu, including a switch to enable WebGL!” with a link to the following image:

Apple has not yet enabled WebGL for Safari. Developers wanting a preview can download a WebKit nightly build and enable WebGL with a command. It is not clear if and when WebGL will be enabled by default in Safari.

WebGL is currently available by default in Firefox 4, Opera 11 and recent versions of Chrome.

I can confirm that the option is there and it works!

No need for nightly builds now!
