A new book, Pro Android Web Game Apps: Using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, promises to you everything you need know about browser-based game development with a focus on Android.

The description from the book’s product page reads:

Pro Android Web Game Apps is a hands-on guide to building browser games for Android devices. The book covers both the theory and the practice of browser game development, from the very first steps to a complete multiplayer game with a rich graphical engine, complex logic and a powerful server…You don’t need any other platforms knowledge; even your server-side programming is done with JavaScript. Start with a blank HTML page and create a massive, multiplayer online game at the end of the book!

The book will cover canvas development, client-server communication, social integration, and will feature an introduction to 3D, which is quite a breadth of topics for a single book. The description claims that the reader need only know JavaScript and HTML, so it’s likely that tutorials for server-side programming might involve Node.js.

The book will also include an introduction to 3D engines — a topic that could fill entire book on its own. Currently, the only browser which supports WebGL on Android is Fennec, a mobile version of Firefox, so the book may have readers develop their own engine using the canvas element.

The planned release date for the book is November 15th, 2011.
